Lecture notes introducing the Stiffness (Displacement) method for analyzing systems of springs. It goes through concepts like element and global stiffness relations, stiffness matrices, node element connectivity charts, etc.
Includes two homework problems that go through the analysis of systems of springs using the Stiffness/Displacement Method. The work goes through how to obtain the global stiffness matrix, full and reduced matrix equations, nodal displacements, and reaction forces.
Homework problems go through the use of the Principle of Minimum Potential Energy on a spring assembly in Problem 1, and the Rayleigh-Ritz method of a 1-D bar in Problem 2.
