Transtheoretical model and Natasha case study
In the healthcare context, the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) has become relevant in
many areas, especially in behavior change. Many people today practice different health behavior
without knowing the possible consequences of the behavior. Some behavior affects the general
wellbeing of individuals, including putting their health at risk. The negative repercussions
become worrying as the behavior makes them realize the outcomes. This situation creates the
need for a change of behavior, making the Transtheoretical model relevant. In this case,
Natasha's behavior has put her in a critical condition. The analysis presents the negative effect of
her behavior which include obesity and pre-diabetic diagnosis. Her behavior of being inactive
and staying indoor is an example of the triggering factors. The lifestyle of eating fast food
without engaging in physical work is risky behavior. Also, Natasha has a negative self-image
making her complain most of the time, remaining unhappy. Natasha's behavior falls in the health
context as it threatens her wellbeing. This paper presents an application of the Transtheoretical
model of behavior change in Natasha's case to achieve weight loss and improved eating habits.
Case study
In this case, Natasha Shevchenko is a single mother of three children. She is a 50 years
old woman who spends most of her time at home. This behavior of remaining inactive and
having poor eating habits started 20 years ago when her children were still young. She always
spends most of her time watching television, including social media. It has become a habit where
she must visit social media platforms. Over the years, she has been having a neighborhood
gathering once or twice a week and eat heavily. It is a friendly gathering which is characterized

by drinks, desserts, and food. Natasha says that the group helps her get relieved from
troublesome children. While watching television, she must have cans of soda and junk food to
keep her busy. Despite eating heavily, Natasha avoids working on fixing the house, including
cleaning. While at home, she buys fast food, frequently claiming it's tasty and convenient.
Natasha also is not a happy person despite being sociable due to a negative self-image. It
makes her complain and feel stressed most of the time. The issue of being a single mother also
bothers her, especially the presence of her children. Currently, Natasha has been diagnosed with
obesity and pre-diabetic. These conditions are health-related problems triggered by lifestyle
behaviors. Obesity is a condition of being overweight, and it can cause many diseases. This
condition comes with chronic illnesses which affect individual health. Pre-diabetic is one of the
health conditions triggered by being overweight as one gets older. Looking at her age, it was a
possible condition; however, it does not mean one will be diabetic if necessary. Her goal is to
lose weight and achieve body fitness. Natasha also wants to have a healthy living habit of
avoiding lifestyle diseases that can compromise her wellbeing.
Also, aspect like lifestyle, diversity, and culture influences Natasha's behavior choices,
including her decisions. Her lifestyle habits exhibit the contributing factors to her choices. One
of the lifestyle factors affecting her choices is family, which is a big issue for her. She is
bothered by her children making her make those choices. Being single stresses her most, causing
interpersonal conflict. It makes her eat fast food frequently, including watching television.
Culture is another aspect that entails the shared beliefs and norms of a specific group. According
to research, culture helps in shaping individual personality (de Freitas et al., 2020). In Natasha's
case, it has influenced the way she lives, including her behavior. Research finding from cultural
neuroscience indicates that the mechanism relates to the brain's ability to adapt to long-lasting
