MHIC EXAM 6
home improvement
The Home Improvement Law defines the term "home improvement" very broadly
in order to include a number of activities:
The addition to or alteration, conversion, improvement, modernization,
remodeling, repair, or replacement of a building or part of a building that is used
or was designed to be used as a residence or dwelling place or a structure adjacent
to that building or an improvement to land adjacent to the building.
This means that work done to a residence, or part of a residence, or a structure
adjacent to a residence, such as a shed, garage, pool house, or guest house, falls
within this definition. Likewise, improvements done to the vard or land
surrounding a residence, such as building a pool, patio, or a wall, is also considered
home improvement.
The statute also provides specific examples of items included and excluded from
the scope of the Home improvement law
