, INTERVIEW SCENARIO
As the youngest South-African athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games, Zamile
Mtshixa, a field and track athlete who specializes in long jump holds a record and
personal best of 8.67m. He was always known as the underdog amongst his peers and
felt inferior based on his age difference. Nevertheless, this only drove his ambition
further as he could always reflect on where he was as a child, living in the rural areas,
with little opportunities and a major lack of support from his parents and the
community as to where he is now.
It was later discovered that the mother of Zamile Mtshixa abused him physically and
emotionally from a young age which resulted in psychological issues. The will to
overcome his negative childhood experiences and to rise above his sustained
circumstances, motivated him to become his full potential self through later
development in his life. His passion for athletics started at an early age as he was
continually exposed to violent environments which led to him, trying to suppress his
feelings by using exercise as a way to forget and escape his morbid circumstances.
Despite the neglect and unfortunate events throughout his young adult life, he
succeeded in fulfilling his potential.
You being through some similar events based on the outline of Zamile Mtshixa’s life
have been approached by an acknowledged sports club coach within your region as
part of a small group of athletes within your current athletic sport academy to be
recruited and selected as one of their potential field and track sport athletes. The
selection process requires you to participate in a psychological interview questionnaire.
The main purpose of the interview is the same as any other hiring methods through
collecting information about a job applicant in order to assess his or her placement
within the position required and to predict future performance in sport.
