operation of the new location. The five functions of management include planning, organizing,
staffing, leading, and control.
Planning
The planning function of management is used to identify the best courses of action to
reach the companies goals. Tactical goals related to production, quality control, and human
resources relate to the warehouse environment. Regular goals will be implanted in accordance to
quality assurance standards as well as quotas for package picking. Each employee will need to be
at a 97% or higher quality rating for picked package and pick a certain number of packages each
shift dependent on which area of the warehouse they are working. Rewards and incentives will
be given out for perfect quality and exceptional numbers for packages picked. These rewards and
incentives should have to entice employees to be successful as well as boost attitudes and create
a positive team culture.
Organizing
The current structure that Amazon has set up for its overall business as well as for the
warehousing is efficient and effective. There are not changes that need to be implemented as far
as that is concerned. The new warehouse will run just as the others do with items organized for
quick picking and packing. Departmentalization will be implemented to create a proper structure
and operation. Departmentalization involves creating divisions that include various jobs
depending on the needs of the business. With 10 supervisors and 90 packers that will oversee the
entire warehouse operation this structure needs to be sufficient to meet the demands of the
customers. The supervisors will be broken into three groups that will each be broken into
subgroups. The three groups will be first, second, and third shift. Within these shifts there will be
