In a world where people are looking for an escape from the normalcy of life and

trying to find someway to relax, some turn to the consumption of illegal drugs, not recognizing

the destruction of others it took to get them their fix. Over the last few decades the world has

become more and more interconnected and for the everyday citizens this is a good thing, for the

ones who are looking to bring illegal and dangerous substances into another country it couldn’t

get better. International drug trafficking has benefited greatly from globalization and continues to

be a billion dollar a year business. However, the repercussions of this business are quite vast and

include poverty, homelessness, crime, addiction, and death. Globalization has brought a plethora

of great opportunities including bringing together different cultures and opening the doors for

organizations to expand their client base. Accompanying the great opportunities are also new

ways for those who want traffic illegal drugs across international borders and in doing so they

use desperate populations to carry their cargo, seeing them as a disposable resource. To combat

international drug trafficking, nations around the world need to crack down on the illegal activity

and not provide these organizations the haven to produce and ship their goods. This will curb the

issues of addiction, crime, homelessness, and death across many nations.
