“A conversation with my Father”
“A parent’s love is whole, no matter how many times divided” –Robert Breault. Are we really
paying attention to the sacrifices that our parents are making for us? Or we’re just too busy
growing not noticing the little things that they do for in order to live a better life and bring
closure that we are always loved and cared for. This story portrays the opposite in both the father
and daughter’s conversation and also the story that they were writing or somehow the daughter
had to write, while the father tried to add in his own ideas but was denied by his daughter. Back
and forth discussing the story that the daughter was writing in request for her dying and elderly
father, they weren’t communicating very well. “You misunderstood me on purpose” – [par.5].
It’s a symbol showing that daughter didn’t listen nor respected her father’s ideas about the story.
Instead she was ignorant and somehow was just making her father even madder with how she
narrated the story. “Why do you answer me like that?” – [par.15] after asking her daughter
“doesn’t anyone in your stories get married….Before they jump into the bed” – [par.15]. This
show just how optimistic the father was and how he wanted his daughter to feel as well towards
the characters.
Being consistent is what the father expected to be telling her story but the daughter intends to
do otherwise. He mentioned a few Russian writers that he wanted her daughter to write
accordingly like and that shows the father wanted her daughter to include a little bit of who we
was and the type of writing her likes in her story. As much as the daughter wanted to include her
father’s ideas but them disagreeing with each is another showing that they view life differently
