Business of IT – Applications
Western Governors University
1. How will the SolDistHR system improve operational efficiency and the HR processes at Soleil?
, a. The SolDistHR system will provide basic onboarding HRM functions. Specifically,
SolDistHR will be a portal for training videos such as Sexual Harassment training,
Security and Data Privacy training, and basic job training. SolDistHR will automate the
scheduling of annual and semi-annual training requirements to help with the scaling
organization’s need for optimization in the hiring and new employee onboarding
process.
Business Process Management
1. How will BPM help in the development and implementation of SolDistHR? What business
processes will be affected, improved, etc., by the development and implementation of
SolDistHR?
a. BPM will help the IT organization control the timeline, budget, and outcome of the
project by creating a framework which will guide the behavior and response through
every phase of the project whether it is design, modeling & simulation, execution,
monitoring and/or optimization (Haag & Cummings, 2013). This framework will help
project team members prioritize work, create solutions, identify and prepare for risks,
and manage stakeholder expectations.
b. The HR department will gain efficiency in the onboarding and required regular training
process to allow employees to focus on job performance. Every department of the
organization will benefit from the automated scheduling system that allows
departments to better forecast availability and timeline to onboard new employees. The
IT department will specifically benefit from the project because they will be able to
manage the PII and training information of employees in a secure environment with less
risk of breach.
Change Management
How will each of the five steps of change management be applied to the SolDistHR project?
1) Acceptance and Filtering – Team members and stakeholders will be required to complete a form
describing the current state of the issue, the change requested, and the value/priority of the change
request. The requests will go into a log that will be combed for duplicate requests. Once identified as
unique, the request will be scoped to verify that the change is possible to introduce and will not affect
the timeline or budget of the project.
2) Classification – The Project manager will classify the change requests priority level. The project
manager will consider the effort needed, the potential technical debt imposed, the value of the change
and the impact to the stakeholder and project budget and timeline.
3) Approval – Once approved as a valid change, the work item(s) will go into the queue to be picked up
by the developer.
4) Building, Testing, and Implementation – The developer will push the changes into a testable
environment for the QA team to perform unit testing. Once properly tested and any caught bugs are
squashed, the developer will push the code into a staging environment where the change can be User
Acceptance Tested. The project can be integration tested, making sure the change didn’t cause any
parallel or connected features to break. The project could then be regression tested if ready for
production at that point.
