, The company named Fameit Inc. (FI) is a manufacturing company that produces
customized frames using raw materials to create frames for certificates, pictures, paintings, etc.,
all over the world. At this company there are around 100 employees that work between the
manufacturing floor and the sales division department, along with 20 individuals that are
assigned managerial/administrative positions in the multiple departments. Throughout the many
years, the company has had great success until Nicolas was addressed with an issue. In a meeting
with his staff, Nicolas was informed of an issue that Berta the production employee told him
about. This problem was that the quality of the product coming off the production line was not
up to par. After Berta informed Nicolas about the issue, Nicolas followed Berta’s concern with a
question to the rest of the employees to see if they had any issues on the production floor. No
other employees gave their concerns. Nicolas then ended the meeting and overlooked the red flag
informed to him. Eventually Nicolas received customer complaints that the products off the
assembly line were being rejected because of their quality. As Nicolas was concerned about his
team, he then called a meeting and bluntly blamed his production team because they did not
inform him of any problems that were seen on the assembly line. Berta, who spoke up about the
issue in the first meeting, responded to Nicolas where she told him that she brought this problem
up in the last meeting. Nicolas then responded with more blame to Berta stating that she should
have followed the concern with a follow-up memo and that she may lose her job on this.
In this scenario, the leadership style that Fameit Inc. (FI) and Nicolas are showing is a
transactional leadership style. The production manager, Nicolas, is showing passiveness which
might be considered laissez-faire. “Laissez-faire, which literally means “let it be” (do nothing), is
the most passive and therefore least effective of leader behaviors.” (Robbins & Judge, 2019) As
