(B) Community Health Nursing Diagnosis Statement
Field Experience topic: Access to Health Services
Increased risk of health problems among the citizens of Sentinel Town related to limited
healthcare resources and lack of access to comprehensive, quality healthcare services
asevidenced by lack of insurance coverageand limited healthcare providers
(B1) Health Inequity/Disparity
The health inequity/disparity that exists is lack of access to healthcare due to poor road
conditions, the geographical location of the town, income, insurance and transportation
availability. Many of the citizens including the town physician Elliot Evans, state that due to the
road conditions throughout Sentinel Town, medical supplies and medications that are ordered
by mail can sometimes be delayed. There is no local drug store or pharmacy, so medications
and medical supplies are unable to be purchased locally. Also, there is limited availability of
primary care providers and specialty healthcare providers. There is a health clinic in Sentinel
Town, however, it is only open Monday through Friday, closes at 5pm, and does not offer
emergency services. If people get injured at night or on the weekend, they must drive to the
city. One of the towns’ key informants Dulce Lopez who is a Registered Nurse states that many
of the town’s citizens are in poor health and require regular checkups and specialty care that is
only available in the city, however, they have limited resources to travel there. Many of the
citizens do not have a running vehicle or other access to transportation so they miss out on
much needed medical care.Additionally, many of the citizens cannot afford the care they need
