operations and financial conditions” (Hayes, 2020). The intent of this exercise is to critique the
reporting styles in how two similar companies present their annual reports to the public and their
shareholders. The two companies chosen are BWX Technologies, and BAE Systems, both of
whom are in the Aerospace/Defense field, and are direct competitors in DOE/Naval shipboard
nuclear reactor vessel systems for power an propulsion. The reports will be analyzed based on
the 2018 reports, due to the limits being reached for free report views for 2019.
1. Describe organizational differences that you see in how each corporation discusses
its annual performance.
BWX Technologies annual report opens to a graphic depicting easy to understand financial
information, which has grown deeper into the black year over year, since the 2015 spin off from
B&W. This is a fantastic way to introduce the reader to the in depth fiscal breakdown of the next
120+ pages by immediately letting the reader know that the stocks they bought are safely
invested. The next page is a letter to the shareholders from President and CEO, Rex Geveden,
detailing the 2018 highlights, and future intentions. The last three (3) pages of the introduction
include a brief company overview and the segmented operating income (how and where much
ofBWXT’s income is accumulated), a breakdown of personnel, history of products shipped and
current service standing, and finally a cumulative list of the corporate Board of Directors and
