Abstract
, Becoming a superintendent in a district can be very challenging. The
superintendent is the top executive ("CEO") in the school district. The superintendent
implements the school board's vision by making day-to-day decisions about educational
programs, spending, staff, and facilities. The superintendent hires, supervises, and
manages the central staff and principals. Superintendents have a lot of responsibility and
have to work ten times as hard as the next person. They are entrusted with making sure
everything is run effectively and the right people are in place. If anything falls, it really
looks bad on them. As a principal you're responsible for that school you work at and
nothing more , just because there is one principal at each school. But as a superintendent,
you're responsible for everything in the district. The state looks at all the schools as a
whole concerning the superintendent. So if the testing scores are low at all schools or
funding is lacking, it's up to the superintendent to fix it.
Turning it around
Dr. P. D. Gogy is very excited to take on the role as superintendent. AS I believe
the weight of her success weighs more heavily on her because she is a product of the area
she is now in charge of. But she should use that as motivation because if she has become
that successful the others can too.
Creating a three year plan is going to require a lot of team work from district
leaders, teachers, parents and communities. The parents that have already removed their
child from the schools , probably felt the district was unorganized. So creating a unified
front to show the community that there is a system of people working together for the
