DISCUSSION OF SUCCESS CHANGE INITIATIVE AND A FAILED CHANGE

INITIATIVE

When working to implement changes, barriers will arise. These barriers include factors such as

fear, politics, complacency, trust and failure to commit. With these barriers also comes strategies

that aid in supporting a successful change initiative. Things like adequate training, a strong

vision-mission statement and effective communication between the change manager and

employees to ensure they understand the vision and mission statement and change initiative. It is

up to management to effectively manage the change and utilize the best method or style for the

organization. These approaches can be of use to leaders in developing a strategy using one or

several approaches that will be beneficial to the organization as well as to help build the personal

experience (Palmer, Dunford, & Akin, 2016).

Successful Change Initiative Examples

Struggling with the growth of the organization; Kraft Foods was forced to make changes. During

their change initiative, Kraft faced a barrier when their leaders began to decentralize the way

decisions were made in the organization. They realized the individuals who made the decision

did not display the knowledge or understanding to choose the path that leads to success in an

effective manner. Once this was realized, Kraft decided to have individuals who had the

knowledge and understanding of the change and handle the task of making decisions for the

organization. By doing so, Kraft was able to remove the policies, procedures, and structures that

were standing in the way of their achievement. This decision granted mid-level managers by

giving them the duty and opportunity to deal with risks associated with the opportunity.
