EKP1 – EKP Task 1: Ethical Standards
A. Create three corporate policies that reflect the organization’s culture
and ethical viewpoints.
1. The 4-Day Work Week
The purpose of this program is to increase employee
productivity by providing employees with hours that qualify
them as full-time employees while utilizing a 4-day work week.
Under this program, employees would be scheduled 32-40 work
hours per week with the flexibility to have an additional day off
during the standard work week.
The employee would have the ability to choose the additional
day off of either Monday or Friday with the option to select a
different day off in a rolling 180-day period.
Employees will still be required to meet company metrics and
quality requirements. Employees who fall beneath these
standards will be subject to being removed from the program
until their productivity meets company standards.
The rationale behind this program is to enhance the employees
work-life balance, allowing for more flexible work schedules,
which in turn would increase employee productivity.
This policy would also be beneficial in preserving electricity and
company resources by working with a decreased workforce in
physical facilities on Mondays and Fridays.
Ethically, this policy shows that the company cares about not
just the company, but also the mental health of its employees
and their families. Employees that are healthy mentally can be
more productive. It also provides employees with the additional
day off to plan doctor’s appointments, children’s schedules, etc.
Childcare may become an issue depending on the working hours
of the 4 day week but could be handled but the company
offering before or after school care at a discounted rate for their
employees.
Legally, this could cause an issue with the Americans with
Disabilities Act because employees with certain conditions may
not be able to handle a longer workday and physically require
the fifth working day to relieve some strain off their bodies.
Requiring all employees to work 4 days is not accommodating to
employees with all disabilities of the ADA. To resolve this
potential issue, employees would have the option to choose
whether they want to work 4 or 5 days during the work week.
2. The Employee Growth & Opportunities Program “E.G.O.”
The purpose of this program is to provide additional benefits to
employees in order to encourage employee growth and retention.
, This program includes tuition reimbursement to all full-time
employees that have been with the company for a period of at
least 6 months, and all part-time employees that have been with
the company for a period of at least 12 full months.
The tuition reimbursement percentage varies based on the
employee’s GPA for the term they are requesting reimbursement
based on the following scale:
o Employees with a 3.0 GPA or higher will receive 100%
tuition reimbursement
o Employees with a GPA between 2.0 and 3.0 will receive
75% tuition reimbursement
o Employees with a GPA between 1.0 and 2.0 will receive
25% tuition reimbursement
o Employees with a GPA below 1.0 will not qualify for tuition
reimbursement
o For employees that attend accredited secondary schools
that offer a pass or fail, employees with receive 80% tuition
reimbursement for each course that is passed during the
term.
Employees will be required to submit a transcript showing the
final grades for the term of which they are requesting
reimbursement, and a detailed invoice on the school’s letterhead
within 30 days of term completion in order to receive tuition
reimbursement.
Employees who enroll and pass professional certification courses
will receive 100% reimbursement for testing fees associated with
the certification program.
Employees who receive a Title IV Pell Grant will not be eligible
for any reimbursement of Pell Grant funds as this type of
financial assistance does not have to be repaid. This does not
apply to any loans received under Title IV Financial Aid.
The rationale behind this program is that it encourages the
employee to strive for additional academic accolades and
increase technical and business skills to allow opportunities for
growth within the company. This program will also attract
potential employees who look for tuition reimbursement as a
benefit when making employment decisions.
Employees who attempt to receive tuition reimbursement for
unqualified courses or attempt to deceive the company for tuition
reimbursement funds in any manner will be subject to
disciplinary actions, up to and including termination.
3. The Community Cares Program
The purpose of this program is increase company involvement
with the sponsorship of community events, youth leadership
development programs, and environment protection activities
for the city of Dellberg.
