A trainer 's ability to coach rest on ?

6 diffrent areas

The 6 different areas for the ability to coach are ?

Teaching

Seeing

Correcting

Group Management

Presence & Attitude

Demonstration

Teaching

The ability to effectively articulate and instruct the mechanics of each movement. This
includes the ability to focus on major points of performance before more subtle or
nuanced ones. It includes the ability to change instruction based on the athlete's needs
and capacity.

Seeing

The ability to differentiate good from poor movement mechanics and detect both gross
and subtle faults whether the athlete is in motion or static.

Correcting

The ability to elicit better mechanics for an athlete through the use of visual, verbal,
and/or tactile cues. This includes the ability to triage (prioritize) faults in order of
importance, which includes an understanding of how multiple faults are related.

,Group Management

Manage, both at a micro level (in each class) and at a macro gym level. The skills include
good time management; the physical arrangement of space, equipment, and
participants for maximum flow and experience; prior planning;

Presence & Attitude

The ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment. Demonstrates
empathy for athletes and rapport.

Demonstration

The ability to provide athletes with an accurate visual example of the movement at hand.
This can be done by using himself or herself as an example, or by selecting another
athlete to provide the example. Highly developed awareness of one's own movement
mechanics is required for this. This also encompasses the idea of leading by example; a
trainer should follow his or her own advice and be an inspiration to clients.

Effective communication

In order to effectively impart this knowledge, a teacher needs to communicate in a style
that the student can grasp irrelevant of one's background, ability, and learning style.

Knowledge in fitness related areas

Moving beyond movement mechanics, coaches can teach other areas that may
contribute to a client's fitness: the more the coach knows in any area that overlaps with
fitness, such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, or even some expertise in a
particular sport, it all helps in teaching.

Static Faults

Static positions are the stationary points where the athlete is not moving, even briefly.
Static positions normally happen near the end ranges of motion, either in the starting,
receiving or finishing position.

,Dynamic faults

Dynamic positions find the athlete moving between the static positions often at a high
speed.

What's the most useful view to assess one's mechanic ?

Generally, a profile view of the athlete, offset by about 45 degrees,

The difficulty in viewing dynamic faults increases as?

The athlete moves faster

the faults are subtler

Correcting depends on the trainer's skill in?

Using effective cues.

Having numerous corrections for any single fault.

Triaging faulty movement.

Balancing critique with praise.

Cues

Any cue that leads to better movement mechanics is effective and therefore, a "good"
cue.

A cue's primary function is?

, To assist the athlete in performing perfect mechanics, not to perfectly describe the
mechanics of the movement.

Generally speaking, the shorter, more specific, and actionable the cue, the higher the
rate of success for the correction.

A three-easy-step process to develop a short, specific and actionable cue is to:

Identify the fault

Identify what is out of place be specific - name the body part

Give direction to that body part

Triaging faults

Sometimes it's difficult to determine which one is the most important fault to correct
because faults often happen in conjunction with other faults. In a perfect world every
fault would be addressed all at the same time, but again this isn't realisticin practice

Assess the cue and provide feedback

A trainer who has provided a cue for an athlete must then follow through with that
athlete for at least one more repetition to assess what happens as a result of the cue.
Whether the cue caused the desired response or not, the trainer must provide feedback.

Stick to the timeline

Adherence to posted times means starting on time and finishing on time: running over is
as unacceptable as running late.

Space and equipment layout

The design needs to take into account buffer zones around any equipment that will be
used and also consideration of when athletes need to shift to different regions of the
gym during the workout.
