BIBL 410 Weekly Study Questions 3 Liberty University answers
complete solutions.
The Beginning of
Civilization/The Flood
Answer thoroughly the following questions based on this module/week’s Reading & Study
material:

1. Explain the meaning of the word “knew” in Genesis 4:1.

“Knew is a common euphemism for sexual union (cf. Gen 19:5; Num. 31:17, 18, 35;
Judg. 11:39; 19:22, 25; I Sam. 1:19; etc.).” (Davis 97)

2. How is God’s grace evident in chapter 4 of Genesis? Be thorough.

As we see with Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:9, God comes to the sinner instead of waiting
for the sinner to go to Him. He approached Cain to want him that “if he sins, tragedy will
follow.” This shows how God went out of His way to lead Cain down the right path.
When the Lord approached Cain after he killed Abel, He asked where Abel was with
patience. God made sure that nobody who was mad would kill Cain by putting a mark on
Him. Considering Csin was being punished for killing his brother, this was a great show
of grace. (Davis 99-100)

3. Look up the following verses and explain each verse individually and how it fits the story
of Cain and Abel:

John 8:44 – The devil was a murdere in the beginning as he influenced Cain to
kill his brother. This is evident when the Lord warned Cain that sin was lurking at the
door. Satan was trying to use Cain in the same way he used the serpent in the Garden
I John 3:12 – This verse confirms that Cain was used by Satan because it says that
his father was the wicked one.
Hebrews 11:4 – By faith, Abel chose to please God by offering a pleasing
sacrifice ot the Lord. Whereas Cain chose to follow the enemy’s promptings.
Hebrews 12:24 – As Hebrews 11:4 also shows, Abel’s blood still cries out from
the ground, because it was shed by his brother Cain.

4. Where did Cain get his wife? Support your answer from the Bible.

The Bible says that Adam and Eve had both sons and daughters, meaning Cain must have
married one of his sisters (Genesis 5:4).

5. Offer two explanations as to why the patriarchs lived so long.

As Davis says, “He... who is duly impressed by the excellence of man’s original state,
will have no difficulty in accepting the common explanation that even under the curse of
sin man’s constitution displayed such vitality that it did not at first submit to the ravages
