Having observed leaders successfully implementing change and innovations, what specific

leadership behaviors, communication styles, or strategies stood out to you as the most

effective in motivating teams during these transformative processes?




In my several years of working under proper leadership and in organizations that implement

change and drive innovations, there are various leadership behaviors and communication styles

that stood out for me. I always admired leaders who used transformational and authentic

leadership styles. These qualities have not only made a change in working places adoptable but

have also made the employees develop a sense of responsibility in making sure the plans by the

management are successful. Therefore, this analysis further discusses these transformational and

authentic leadership styles in workplaces, how they can be incorporated into organizations.

Transformational leadership is the kind of leadership approach that involves transforming

the followers, inspiring them, building trust, encouragement, respect for individual

innovativeness, and developing followers' ideas. Additionally, in a managerial context, it is

defined as the ability of a leader to get the employees to perform beyond expectations by

enhancing their ability and motivating them. Transformative leadership is made up of four major

components: idealized influence, inspirational motivation that enhances confidence, intellectual

stimulation, and, finally, individualized consideration (Khan et al., 2020). Idealized influence

occurs when a leader creates the goals and the objectives to be achieved and also elaborates on

the means to achieve them. In my experience of working in organizations during change

processes, one thing that was evident was the effectiveness of a plan that was envisioned and

planned. Having objectives made it easier for the team involved to build momentum as they took

a step-by-step approach towards change, this gave positive results. It also made it easy for each

employee to understand their role in bringing about the change.

The leader's attitude also matters in bringing about change and innovativeness. This is

classified as the second component of being a transformational leader, termed inspirational

motivation. A leader achieves this by employing the right attitude with the employees. From

observation, a leader who is friendly but remains objective on the goals of the company is more

likely to get their employees to easily communicate with them and also empower them to better

performance. Additionally, they are able to efficiently communicate feedback, which is taken in a

meaningful and serious manner by their employees. The third component of transformative

leadership is intellectual stimulation, which can be interpreted as the effort by the leader to

motivate and encourage their employees to be more adaptive to the new changes to solve a

problem they are having. From experience, when a leader is more vocal about the changes they

want to be implemented and encourages the employees through participation and provision of

the required resources, the employees have the urge to produce positive feedback. The leaders
