Medical Assistant Interview Questions
Tell me about yourself - correct answer ✔I am a recent graduate from
carrington college where i completed my medical assistant program. I got
hired on directly from my extern site where i worked for 6 months and learned
vital skills, patient histories and the clinical aspects of medical assisting and i
also learned how to scribe. I am currently employed with point quest
education where i have worked for 3 years. I work with emotionally disturbed
and autistic students. I work 1:1 with my assigned student, and assist with
school work, teach them positive social behaviors and skills for building
relationships with others. I chose to continue to pursue medical assisting
because I love the patient interaction i received in the clinical setting and
working with DR. Kamali has given me the experience necessary to adapt and
grow as a medical assistant.

What are your strengths? - correct answer ✔I am a people person. i have to
ability to make people smile when they are feeling down. I am a strong
communicator, both face to face and via phone. I also have the ability to work
alone as well as part of a team. I feel very confident in my work ethic, since i
make every effort to ensure goals are met. I feel strongly that if you employ
me, i will work hard to perform my duties.

What are your weaknesses? - correct answer ✔I have been criticized before
for my inability to say no to coworkers. I'm usually the first person to volunteer
to do additional tasks.

I feel like my main weakness is the fact that I take on a lot of work since I want
to make sure that it gets done. Saying no is hard for me since I always try to
assure that I am responsible for taking the initiative. I understand that I do
have a team to work with and I am working on being able to delegate some of
the workload to other competent staff to assure tasks are completed.

, Can you describe a time when you maintained confidentiality at work? -
correct answer ✔Once a patient's daughter called to request status on
documents needed for a patient. Due to HIPAA laws, I could not release
information to her and she became irate. I let my supervisor know the situation
and she confirmed that I did the right thing.

What can you do as a medical assistant to make sure you are following
HIPAA protocol? - correct answer ✔To ensure i am following HIPAA
protocols, i have to always make sure that i keep patient files secure and out
of sight, make sure computer screens are always secured before stepping
away. Understanding that patients files contain sensitive information also lets
me be more focused on ensuring their privacy.

What does HIPAA stand for? - correct answer ✔Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act

Tell me how you would deal with an upset patient who was in your care? -
correct answer ✔Treat the patient with respect and try to understand what
caused the patient to become upset, express regret about the situation, and
try to find some point of agreement before they leave the office. If the patient
is still upset i would inform a lead or manager about the situation.

Describe a difficult situation in the workplace and how you handled it? -
correct answer ✔During difficult and challenging tasks I always remember to
remain calm, composed and focused.

I had to perform an injection on a patient that was scared of needles. I was
able to talk to the patient and while i distracted him i was able to get the
procedure over with quickly. The patient was content that the procedure
ended so quickly and thanked me.
