Water can be found on Earth as a solid, liquid or gas
The water cycle is powered by the sun
The primary reservoirs of water are oceans, ice caps, and groundwater
Key Processes
Evaporation- surface water, when heated, becomes atmospheric water (water vapor)
Condensation- as water vapor cools, it condenses into droplets of liquid water
Precipitation- when these droplets of liquid water are heavy enough, the fall to the
Earth as rain/snow/sleet/hail
Transpiration- water stored in the leaves of plants evaporates during
photosynthesis
Surface Runoff- water moving across the surface of the Earth from excess
precipitation or human activities
Infiltration- water that fell on the land slowly seeps into the ground
Plant Uptake- water from the upper soil enters plants through their roots
Human Impacts
Cutting trees can reduce evapotranspiration
