Still Life
This artwork consist of the medium oil, replicating “Still Life” following its title. Jo Spell
was the creator in the era of Impressionist & Modernism. The art shows inanimate objects from
the natural or man-made world, such as the apples, vases, and flowers. They are still but portray
a type of life within. The colors are vibrant, contrasting from a somber, upsetting emotion. The
walls and background have muted to dulling colors, made to assume an older time or the
perspective of someone older. Time has passed, the apples aren’t molding, but the flowers above,
are dead to drying out. I admire this piece due to its simplicity, vibrancy of color, old timeframe
and the dullness in the background. The highlight and brushstrokes reminds me of both the
Impressionism period and contemporary. The difference in color would fall under contemporary,
and the brush strokes mimic Van Gogh, but less intensity.
