Nutritional Self-Analysis

BMI & Hamwi

Height: 5’10” (177.8 cm); Weight: 185 lbs. (84.09 kg)

[ weight ( kg ) ] = [ 84.09 kg ] =26.5
Body Mass Index (BMI) Formula: 2 2
[ height ( m ) } [ 1.78 m ]
Ideal Body Weight (IBW) Formula (Hamwi Method) for Men: “Allow 106 lb. for the first 5 ft of

10∈¿
height; add 6 lb. for each additional inch” ( 6 lb ) ( ¿ ] =166 lb
M =106 lb+¿

% Of Ideal Body Weight (IBW) Formula: %IBW =
[ (Wt ) ( 100 ) ] = [ (185 )( 100 ) ] =111.4 %
IBW 166

According to the calculations of body mass index (BMI) & Hamwi method for ideal body

weight (IDW), I am considered to be an unhealthy individual. Based on my current body

measurements of height & weight, when entered the equations, my BMI is 26.5 & my IDW is

166 lb. (pounds). With my BMI of 26.5, my interpreted weight status is considered to be within

the “overweight” category, which is determined by the weight ranges of 25 – 29.9 (CDC, 2021).

My % IBW was calculated at 111.4%; according to my score, I fall under the category of

“overweight.” This interpreted value of “overweight” shows a percentage range between 110% –

119% (Dudek, 2022).

Food Diary

Food Notes (04/27/22)
Breakfast – This morning, I wanted to sleep in & wasn’t feeling as hungry to eat. I woke up early
as well & decided to get studying done before heading out.
Lunch – I was at home for lunch. Lunch was the bulk of 3 meals for the day; I set out an entire
dedicate to studying with friends but also wanted to go to the gym. Hence, the vast increased
consumption of food. The items that I ate were out of convenience; I didn’t want to spend money
on food & tried to make myself lunch.
Dinner – Since I was out all day studying, I decided to skip dinner. By the time dinner
approached, I wasn’t in the mood to eat more than I already did during lunch. Choosing to skip
dinner was an intentional decision.
Snack – I categorized the Quaker rice crisps & Starbucks chai latte as snacks since I ate & drank
these throughout the day rather than having them all at certain mealtimes.
Calorie Notes – The amount of sodium that I ingested is quite concerning. It was because I ate so
much at home; I had access to bountiful diverse types of foods to choose from. The excess
amount of sodium came from eating a whole container of clam chowder with bacon (2,310
calories), which provided all my recommend intake for that day.
