1) There are many reasons the gene regulation of a trp repressor is different from the one of an
iac repressor. The lac repressor is active after it gets synthesized from the regulatory genes, the
repressor will attach itself directly to the operator site and the lac operon is not going to function
until lactose is present (Academy, 2017). However the trp repressor protein is inactive and won’t
start the process until tryptophan proteins are enough in the cells. In conclusion, it can be said
that the protein of lac repressor starts working immediately after it is created, the process of trp
oppressor wont start until there are many tryptophan molecules (Academy, 2017). Both of these
proteins work for the same thing but under different circumstances. The gene expression that
involves iac repressor is controlled by lactose, the end product of the trp operon also known as
tryptophan also participates in its own activity actively.

2) If a mutation occurred in the operator region and could not continue its function, even after the
trp repressor proteins got activated and attached itself to the tryptophan molecules that are way
too much, they would not be able to attach to the operator site. Even though there are many
repressor proteins, the trp operon would continue transcribing genes into RNA transcripts
(Bhagwan, 2011). The cells metabolism would be affected negatively because energy and raw
material is wasted, this will affect the other cell processes.

3) When genetic mutation takes place the shape of the trp operon protein shape will change, the
repressor will not be able to attach correctly the way it is supposed to with tryptophan. This
would cause an excessive amount of tryptophan to be produced since the repressor did not attach
to the operator correctly, this causes RNA polymerase to repetitively attach to the prompter
creating more tryptophan (Medline plus). If a mutation changes the shape of the trp repressor
protein the shape of the allosteric site may also alter, this will make it difficult for the protein to
attach with it. The end result tryptophan of the trp operon would lose the ability to regain control
over its own gene expression, the cells will keep producing tryptophan molecules until all of the
required energies and materials are used up.
