The dorsal/ventral axis is already established.
The animal hemisphere is mostly ectoderm. On the dorsal side is the neural
ectoderm and on the ventral side is the epidermal ectoderm.
The vegetal hemisphere is endoderm.
The marginal zone gives rise to mesoderm. The dorsal side will be the notochord
and the ventral side will be blood/kidney.
The site of blastopore is at the dorsal border of the marginal zone and endoderm.
Cortical rotation
Establishes the dorsal/ventral axis prior to gastrulation. A 30˚ rotation of the
cortical layer towards the site of sperm entry (sperm fertilizes in the animal
hemisphere).
Centriole pairs cause massive conformation change of microtubules which cause
the rotation
