such as castor oil and wheat among other products. This is set to increase
the price of commodities making it harder for large businesses to import
and sell the raw materials.
The majority are of the opinion that the rise in the cost of food products will
affect the price of basic commodities such as bread, mandazis, and other
foods and generally increase the cost of the economic food basket. This will
make the food products ore expensive for many and may push low income
families further into poverty. It is also set to affect their ability to pay for
other goods and services such as clothes, school fees and savings. Further,
they quip that this will affect the amount of savings middle income families
can save.
The minority - who are in employment - are of the opinion that additional
taxes on food products will affect the amount of savings as the taxes do not
correspond with an increase of income. Those with other income generating
activities alias side-hustles are also of the opinion that residents with
reduced incomes will affect their businesses and bring about a more
difficult business environment.
