Hesi A2 2024 Biology Section
Nurses need to know biology at what level and why - ANS Basic biology and a cellular level to
recognize a change of problem and then implement a strategy to fix it.
Biology is - ANS The study of life and all living things (organisms)
single celled organisms - ANS prokaryotes (bacteria)
Multicellular organisms - ANS Organisms composed of many cells (Ex. tissue, humans, etc.)
All living things are made of - ANS cells originated from a pre-existing cell. Smallest unit of
living things . Needed for survival
cell theory - ANS idea that all living things are composed of cells, cells are the basic units of
structure and function in living things, and new cells are produced from existing cells
Living things are organized into groups of - ANS Species
Species are - ANS groups of organisms that can potentially interbreed to produce fertile
offspring. Then those closely related organism are grouped into broader tacón tier called genus
Ascending organization (stupid grandma ****ing on children pushing kitties down ) - ANS
Species, genus , family , order , class , phylum , kingdom , domain
Scientific Method - ANS A logical, systematic approach to the solution of a scientific problem
(tests out an event or phenomenon)
Scientific Method uses what steps - ANS Observing , developing questions , researching what
other scientists have already done , creating a hypothesis that will predict the outcome of the
questions designed to test the hypothesis
Hypothesis - ANS An educated guess
compound microscope - ANS A light microscope that has more than one lens
The structure and organization of both living things and non living things are derived from
certain properties of ___&_____ - ANS Matter and energy
Matter - ANS Anything that has mass and takes up space ( weights something's ) can be liquid,
solid or a gas
, The building blocks of matter are ___ - ANS elements (helium , oxygen , chlorine , nitrogen,
potassium and radium )
The periodic table known as - ANS Chart of all known elements
Energy is - ANS the ability to do work, bring change or make things happen . Energy can be
shifted , converted and changed but cannot be created or destroyed .
Law of Conservation of Energy - ANS Energy cannot be created or destroyed
Energy exists in many forms like - ANS Light , heat , chemical , electrical. Energy or conversion
of energy is needed for cell life maintenance
Homeostasis - ANS A tendency to maintain a balanced or constant internal state; the regulation
of any changes or disruptions
Organism - ANS Living things that can sense and react to stimuli ( change, stress, or
disruption) reproduction (duplicate) , grow and develop , essentially evolve, transform (utilize
and convert ) energy and maintain internal balance (homeostasis)
Organisms can be ___,____,____,____,____,___ - ANS Viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi ,
plates or animals . I'm order to live and survive they need internal balance and cellular
homeostasis
The survival of all organisms relies on - ANS Metabolic activity and homeostasis at a cellular
level .
Metabolism refers to - ANS the sum of all the physical and chemical reactions occurring every
aspect of life including organisms ability to obtain and convert energy from the environment and
its ability to use that energy to maintain itself homeostasis ( allow growth , evolution , and
reproduction)
Plant cells converts the sun's light energy and uses it in the process of - ANS Photosynthesis
What do other cells use to convert energy via both - ANS Aeróbic and anaerobic respiration
Anabolism - ANS Constructive metabolism; the process of building up (synthesis) larger
molecules from smaller ones.
Metabolism - ANS Metabolic pathways that break down molecules, releasing energy.
Aerobic - ANS Process that requires oxygen
