Introduction

The simplest form of motion is when an object moves along a straight line which is called

translational motion. Other types of motion are rotational and vibrational. The motion of an

object is shown by displacement and velocity. Displacement can be found by determining the

difference between an object's final and original positions. Velocity describes speed and direction

of motion of an object. This can be shown on a graph because a forward velocity has a positive

slope (upwards line) and a backward velocity has a negative slope (downwards line). Velocity

can remain constant during motion, but it can also change. The slope of a graph is equal to its

velocity on a distance vs time graph. This graph is used for an object traveling forward at a

constant speed. Displacement can be determined by a velocity vs time graph.
