NAT/PAT and VLANs
NAT = Network Address Translation
PAT = Port Address Translation
NAT/PAT converts Private to Public addresses – This is what
allows for the US to still use IPv4 addresses since we conserve the
public addresses
IPv6 = All addresses are considered public
Private IP = 10.151.100.114
Public IP = 168.28.2.98 (GGC’s Public IP Address)
How does the system know which application/browser window to
return the information?
netstat = network statistics
NAT:
- Network Address Translation
- Preserves limited amt of IPv4 public addies
- Private IP addies and NAT was developed
○ Cannot directly access internet w private IP
○ Only used internally (home/biz)
○ NAT will translate pri to pub & reverse
