CASPer EXAM QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Consider a time when you faced a difficult situation.

1. What was the situation and why was it difficult for you? Explain your response.
2. What would you do differently if you experienced a similar situation again? Explain
your response?
3. Do you prefer to deal with difficult situations on your own or by involving other
people? Explain your response. - Answers -1. I was working as a tutor in my university's
library and had one particular student that was making very little progress despite his
test the next week. This situation was difficult because our lessons were seemingly
ineffective with the added pressure of a time constraint. I was frustrated with myself for
being unable to help said student.
2. I would like to have a conversation with the student and try to learn more about that
their learning styles. This will allow me to research other methods that to offer a more
personalized and effective lesson. Perhaps including more visual aids would have been
helpful.
3. If I have the appropriate information and resources to solve a difficult on my own
effectively, I will proceed do so. However, if faced with a more complex situation, I may
reach out to gain different perspectives and consider multiple ways to solve the
problem. In the situation above, I spoke to the course instructor found out that said
student has missed several classes up to that point that affected his ability to learn
current material. We then worked together to get the student up to speed and prepared
for the exam

From time to time, we deal with conflict in some form.

1. Briefly describe a time when you experienced conflict. How did you react? Explain
your response.
2. Consider how the other person in this scenario acted. Do you think they handled
situation appropriately?
Why or why not?
3. When two or more people are experiencing conflict, what factors are most important
to consider before trying to solve this issue? Explain your reasoning. - Answers -1. I
experienced conflict with a coworker when I was working at my university's admissions
office. I noticed that she was doing her homework while on shift and I was having to
take on her tasks in addition to my own. I felt this was unfair seeing how I had my own
assignments to do but refrained from doing them during work hours. I decided to talk to
my coworker let her know of this situation.
2. My coworker reacted appropriately. I approached her in a private and non-
confrontational manner, and she confessed to me that she was having trouble
managing her coursework at the moment and apologized leaving work undone at the
office. I suggested talking to her professors and our supervisor about her situation and
she agreed.

,3. I think it is important understand each person's perspective to give reasoning to their
actions and determine if there was any ill intent toward the other party. After that initial
discussion to create common ground, both parties can move toward a compromise.

Think of a time when you had to make a sacrifice in order to accomplish a goal.

1. Briefly describe the situation and the sacrifice that you made.
2. Do you regret your decision to make the sacrifice? Why or why not?
3. What did you learn from this situation that can applied to your future career. Explain
your response. - Answers -1. I was taking Organic Chemistry II before I decided to
pursue the PA profession; this issue with this is that this course is not required by PA
programs and I was not excelling in the class. I decided to withdraw from the class in
order to maintain a decent GPA for PA school applications.
2. I do not regret my decision to withdraw from the course because I understand the
impact it would have had on my GPA had I continued, which would ultimately hinder my
chances of acceptance to PA schools. However, I would have chosen to finish the class
regardless of the grade I received if it had no affect on my GPA because I strive to finish
the tasks I start.
3. This situation reinforced the importance at looking at the bigger picture as opposed to
single events. As a future healthcare provider, I would need to consider how given
treatment would holistically affect my patient's health.

You are asked to put three items into a time capsule, which will be opened in 300 years.
This time capsule is intended to reflect the areas of humanity that are going well, and
those that need improvement in the current year.

1. What areas, both positive and negative, do you feel should be highlighted? Explain
why you consider these to be key areas.
2. What items would you put in the capsule? Explain your response?
3. What responsibility, if any, do current generations have for future generations?
Explain your response. - Answers -1. Advancements in any field (e.g. medical,
technology, societal, etc.) are always highlighted to showcase how invention,
innovation, and progress improve the overall quality of human life. For example, cell
phones can be used as a mobile encyclopedia and to instantly connect with others on
the other side of the globe. However, it is also important to recognize areas in which
humans have caused more harm than good; the human-paved climate crisis has largely
destroyed natural environments and their biodiversity.
2. I would put (1) a Covid-19 vaccine card to indicate how we have dealt with a
pandemic, (2) a smart phone to display facets of technology, (3) a poster from any given
protest/demonstration/march (e.g. the MeToo movement) to remember society's
constant fight for equal rights.
3. Current generations carry many responsibilities for future generations. For one, we
need to ensure that the Earth is still habitable by protecting our natural ecosystems and
resources. We are also obligated to uphold and strive for human rights and freedoms as
well as international peace and cooperation.

, (Video) Altruism involves making personal sacrifices to benefit others without any
expectation of them.

1. Think of a time you demonstrated altruism.
2. Can you think of a situation when it's ok to put your own needs ahead of others?
3. Do you think altruism is an innate personal quality or can it be learned? Explain your
response. - Answers -1. I was mentoring a first-generation high school student about
the college application and admissions process. Our meeting ran on longer than
expected because the student came across more questions during our discussion, but I
happily answered them even though I ended up late to dinner with my friends whom I
had not seen in a while. I was once in the same situation as that student and wanted to
offer my help because it can be a difficult situation to navigate.
2. It is important to find a balance between being selfless and remembering to attend to
your own needs. When someone is attempting to help too many other people at one
time, they may be unable to complete their own responsibilities and neglect their own
health. Therefore, it is important to also prioritize one's own needs in order recharge to
better serve oneself and one's community.
3. Some people may claim that altruism is an innate trait because it may have been
evolutionary developed in that kindness is generally reciprocated thus making one more
"fit". I believe altruism is further developed past childhood and influenced by learned
experiences and examples set by parental figures in one's life going into adulthood
because the crux of altruism is to make sacrifices for others without expecting anything
in return.

(Video) You have been working towards your dream job for years, and you get an
interview for your ideal position. Unfortunately, you are rejected after the interview.

1. After you receive the news, what would be your priority?
2. Offered option of applying for position again in the future or accepting a different
position.
3. How would you keep yourself motivated to pursue your dream job? - Answers -1. My
first priority would be reaching out to the interview committee for a review of my
performance if possible. I would like to know the areas in which I could improve for
reapplication to this position or to other potential positions with other companies.
2. Though still wanting to pursue my original plan, I would be interested in the
opportunity to learn in a different position. It could possibly be a better match for me
than the previous position, or it could provide skills that would help me reapply.
3. I would revisit the reasons I chose my dream job to reignite my motivation to pursue
this career. I would also take this opportunity to learn in different positions that would
give me more insight to my dream profession.
