IB Mathematics Analysis & Approach Standard Level Internal Assessment Investigation Of The Topic:

Modelling the pepsi logo

, 1. Introduction
1.1 Rationale
Looking at how mathematics shows itself to the world around me has always built up my curiosity and

given my interest in logo designs that are offered by many famous firms, especially soft drink firms.

Specifically, on one of the most famous soft drink brands and one of my favourites,Pepsi. Since I was

young, my parents always bought me a Pepsi every time during my birthday. It always amazes me about

Pepsi's famous circle red, white, blue logo which is unique in some way, especially on it’s curves. That

logo always gives me some enjoyment and fun to drink more. Those features have made Pepsi become

one of the most famous soft drink brands in the world. For that it made me curious on how come In this

opportunity, I decided to try to model the logo myself with the help of maths, since pepsi is very well

known for it’s curves and colour sections in the logo.

The aim of this exploration is to model the Pepsi logo and find out how many functions can be found in

the pepsi logo. This could be useful to understand the exact curves functions that are contained in the

pepsi logo that made the logo very well known around the world.

, 2. Background Theory
In this exploration, curve functions are also used for the modelling. There are many types of graphic

curves equation, starting from linear to cubic.

Linear function
Linear function is the most basic form out of the other functions. The graph was in the form of a straight

line. The equation of the function are

𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏
a=gradient
b=y-intercept
