Flat file and relational databases
Database–an organized collection of structured information (data), typically stored in an
electronic computer system
- Collection of data organized into files called tables
Relational database–contains multiple tables that relate to each other through special
key fields
Flat file database–contain single table of data
- Relational databases more flexible than flat file
- Flat file creates more work as the same information must be stored under one
table
- Duplicate data will create inconsistencies
- If one part of the information must be changed, the entire table must
change
