UPS ESTA Explanation of Reasons for Training and
Explanation of SWM Question with Correct Answers
Explanation of reasons for training Correct Answer-When is a swm
completed, how is a swm completed

When is a swm completed? Correct Answer-New employee, annual
certification, job change(permanent and temporary), after every injury,
first day back regular duty

How is a swm completed? Correct Answer-First, the swm training
process must be introduced and explained to the employee

Observation, explanation, commentary, and drill will occur three times
throughout the employee's shift. (Initial third off shift, middle third of
shift, final third of shift)

Next, the swm begins with the first round of observations. Trainer marks
any at risk method observed with an N immediately. Any method not
observed must be reviewed and marked with an R. Any method
observed not marked as an exception will be marked as a Y at the end of
the observation period.

Next, the trainer will provide the employee an explanation (teach me) of
the at risk work methods observed.

, Next, the trainer will provide commentary (show me) by demonstrating
the correct method(s) that we're marked with an N to the employee.

Next, the trainer will drill - follow up (let me) with the employee to
ensure understanding of the safe work methods performed incorrectly by
having the employee explain AND demonstrate the correct methods.

After middle round of observation, explanation, commentary, and drill
have been completed, the trainer will demonstrate how to complete the
swm drill exercise (optional).

Next, the employee will then conduct the swm drill exercise (let me) for
his or her specific job.
