that catastrophe would strike the nation. Once it had, he preached hope to the Israelites when they
were living in Babylon.
Ezekiel - A prophet of the southern Kingdom who was deported to Babylon with the exiles. After the fall
of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple he changed his warnings and despair to one of hope and
consolation for the exiled people
Nebuchadnezzar - The Babylonian King who destroyed the city of Jerusalem in 586 BC and then
deported many of the Israelites to Babylon.
Cyrus - The Persian King who conquered the Babylonian empire. In 538 BC, this king allowed the
Israelites, "the remnant," to return to Jerusalem.
