AC 2.1 Compare campaigns for change relating to crime

There are many campaigns which have been able to cause change. The campaigns I will be
elaborating on are: Clare’s law, Stoptober Stop smoking campaign, Brexit, the stonewall
lgbtq campaign, Sarah’s law and my own campaign ‘hand on my heart’.

Aims

The aim of a campaign is to create one or two main goals in which the campaign wants to
achieve. In order to achieve aims, objectives must be made which are smaller goals, in order
to complete the aims.
The aim of Clare's law was to change the law and to raise awareness of domestic abuse
and violence. After her death, the change in the law was campaigned for. Similarly, Sarah’s
law was created to change the law. Sarah payne has been abducted and murdered by a sex
offender in her local area. Sarah’s law aimed to change the law to allow people to have the
right to ask the police about sex offenders in their local area. This was to ensure that more
children would be at less risk of falling victim to sex offenders who they did not know about in
their local areas.
The aim of Stoptober was to change the attitude amongst the general public about smoking,
and to encourage more people to stop smoking. After many years of evidence and statistics,
the NHS had launched the campaign to help people who wanted to stop smoking and
encourage more people to stop. Whereas the stonewall campaign aimed to raise awareness
and attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people, and to encourage more people to support people
who were LGBTQ+, and to help support those coming out to their families.
The aim of Brexit was a change in policy. The national vote in order to leave the EU was
made, and this was a change in policy which would be made when the UK eventually left the
EU. Whereas my campaign ‘Hand On My Heart’ is a campaign to raise awareness for
domestic abuse and to encourage more people to speak up about domestic abuse. This is
due to the fact that domestic abuse goes under-reported and many cases are left unresolved
and unrecorded.

Driving force

The driving force behind a campaign is an essential part for the main aim of the campaign. It
can often be family, friends, witnesses, policiiticans, MP’s, celebrities, statistics, etc which
are the driving force behind a campaign
Both Sarah’s law and Clare’s law had a similar driving force: family of the victims wanting
justice and a change in law. The driving force behind Clare's Law was Michael Brown, lares
dad, who campaigned for women's rights to be better and to protect women. Due to the fact
that George Appleton had killed himself days after he had murdered Clare, there was no
