PSY 375 Project Two Milestone Template

Select a topic for your Project Two blog post from the Project Two Milestone Topics document,

linked in the Prompt section of this assignment in your course. Next, using the Shapiro Library

or other sources, identify three primary and two secondary sources to support your blog post.

You must address each of the rubric criteria listed below in about 1,000 to 1,200 words total:

Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information.

1. Select a topic from the topics provided and explain why you selected that option.

From the topics provided, I chose to delve deeper into the theme of everyday technology

and cognition. The specific topic I chose to delve deeper into is the effects of scrolling

through social media on various aspects of cognition. I chose this topic due to friends and

family members who use social media as a “side hustle” to boost their income. I want to

analyze what effects, both positive and negative, extended use of social media has on

one’s cognition.

2. Create an annotated bibliography entry for your first primary source. Sources should be

described in your own words for a general audience. Your entry should include a

summary of the following:

A. The problem addressed

, B. The methodology, measurements, and sample

C. The findings

D. Conclusions and limitations of the research design

Shen, Z., & Pritchard, M. J. (2022). Cognitive engagement on social media: A study of

the effects of visual cueing in educational videos. Journal of the Association for

Information Science and Technology. https://doi.org/10.1002/asi.24630

 In this study, the authors hypothesize and investigate the effects of optical

prompting and its impact on cognitive encounters when viewing videos on social

media. The authors of this study analyze and differentiate the deliberate visual

cues from the unintentional optical prompts. The authors describe deliberate, or

voluntary, cues as textual and visual signals that intentionally modify one’s

behavior. They also describe unintentional, or involuntary, cues as contrasting

colors or other visual cues that are meant to lead the user without their full

attentiveness.

3. Create an annotated bibliography entry for your second primary source. Sources should

be described in your own words for a general audience. Your entry should include a

summary of the following:

A. The problem addressed

B. The methodology, measurements, and sample

C. The findings
