Charge of Your Health
PURPOSE AND PERSPECTIVE OF THE CHAPTER
The purpose of this chapter is to help students live more fully, more happily, more
healthfully, and hopefully longer. You will learn major characteristics of healthy
behaviors that can contribute to your health, as well as what can contribute to health
disparities among Americans. Ways to make healthful changes and the importance of
the power of prevention will be explored.
CHAPTER OBJECTIVES

1.3 Assess the current health status of Americans.
1.4 Discuss health disparities based on sex and race.
