What are the primary objectives of ABCP? ANSWER: To ensure that all soldiers
attain and maintain optimal well-being and performance under all conditions.
What are the secondary objectives of ABCP? - ANSWER (1) Assist in the
establishment and maintenance
(a) Operational preparedness.
(b) Physical fitness.
(c) Health.
(d) A professional military look as per Army Regulation (AR) 670-1.
(2) Set body fat criteria.
(3) Provide processes for personnel counseling to help in meeting the criteria
prescribed in this regulation.

Body Fat
Lean body mass (which comprises muscle, bone, and important organ tissue)
, Body fat - ANSWER Body fat is defined as the percentage of total body weight
that is fat. For example, a person weighing 200 pounds with 18% body fat has 36
pounds of fat. Women generally have a larger percentage of body fat than males
due of genetic and hormonal variances; hence, body fat norms differ between men
and women by age groups.
To satisfy mission requirements, soldiers must maintain a high degree of physical
readiness. How does body composition contribute to mission requirements? -
ANSWER Body composition is one indicator of physical readiness that is
associated with an individual's fitness, endurance, and overall health. Individuals
with desirable body fat percentages generally exhibit increased muscular strength
and endurance, are less likely to sustain injury from weight-bearing activity, and
are more likely to perform at an optimal level.
ABCP requirements - ANSWER (a) Soldiers must fulfill the prescribed body fat
standard—they will be examined every 6 months, at a minimum, to guarantee
compliance with this regulation.
(a) The sole authorized method for estimating body fat is the circumference-based
tape method.
(c) Commanders are authorized to use the weight for height table as a screening
tool to speed up the semi-annual testing procedure. Soldiers who do not exceed the
permissible screening table weight for their age and assessed height are not
required to undergo body fat assessments.
(d) Commanders have the authority to order a body fat evaluation on any Soldier
that they determine does not exhibit a Soldierly appearance, regardless of whether
the Soldier exceeds the screening table weight for his or her measured height.
