Tell me about yourself!
UBC completed a bachelor's degree in computer science and physiology.
- One of my most remarkable accomplishments during this time was running and
leading my research study analyzing the gender gap in physiology departments
across North America.
- I wrote and published this paper as the first author, and it was here that I first saw
the power of data. Beginning with data from academics in the physiology
departments, I was able to reach a significant conclusion that could be a step
toward creating a beneficial change.
LifeLabs
- This work was more data engineering focused, providing me with the necessary
exposure to learn more about the backend of data and how ETL pipelines function.
- Working at LifeLabs during COVID-19, when laboratory tests were at their
pinnacle, forced me to master technologies on the fly and perform extensive
independent learning.
- Because of the pandemonium, I was able to immediately assess the impact of my
efforts.
Masters
- Completed the gaps in my data education, providing me with a solid foundation in
computer science, data analytics and visualization, statistics, and machine learning.
, - My most remarkable achievement was creating a recycling image-classifying
robot that used computer vision to correctly sort trash into one of three categories.
EvolveLab
- This was a new experience for me because I was able to interact with startups and
assist them with actual challenges, which forced me to think beyond the coding
problem in front of me. I had to consider things like budgeting and cloud cost
efficiency.
- I enjoyed working for a startup because it required me to be self-sufficient and
wear multiple hats. Sometimes I felt like a data scientist, and other times like a
backend developer.
I'm now seeking for a career where I can challenge myself and develop while

Why are you interested in the GTLP program?
Starting with why I want to work at Telus, I strongly identify with its ideals.
Despite having the most awarded network in Canada, Telus continues to prioritize
customers and the community. This is seen in its endeavors beyond personal and
business network solutions, such as healthcare innovation, agricultural revolution,
and environmental protection.
Also, I believe that firms who have been around as long as Telus are reluctant to
technological change, whereas Telus values innovation. One such example is the
Telus AI Accelerator.
The GTLP program drew me in because of its commitment to helping members
learn and grow. As a lifelong learner, the opportunity to rotate across numerous
teams and discover how I can contribute to meeting customers' technological needs
is very exciting. That's an opportunity you can't get anywhere else, and I see it as
the ideal initial step in my career to determine where I fit best. I'm also excited to
see the GTLP cookbook for myself.
