CT CAT scans questions with correct answers rated 100% .
What does it stand for? ANS - Computerised tomography (CT)
Computed axial tomography (CAT)
What's happening? ANS - X-ray images are taken from around the axis of the human body creating image slices that have to be interpreted and made into whole images by a computer.
How does a CAT scan differ from a conventional x-ray? ANS - The CT scan can produce much more detailed images including 3D images. They can also produce images of soft tissue as well without the use of a contrast medium.
How the CT scanner works: ANS - The x-ray tube circles around the body taking images at different angles. On the opposite side of the body to the tube is a detector that receives the x-ray waves to produce an image that's transposed onto a computer.
Why are x-rays taken in different positions? ANS - This lets the radiographer gain images of the same thing but from a different perspective which could unveil something that's hidden from another angle in another image.
How the 2D image turns 3D: ANS - When the x-ray tube is going around the patient, it's taking image slices which are all 2D images. They can then be put together to create a whole image then which turns to 3D.
Is photographic film used? ANS - No, all of the images are converted to electrical signals and put together through a computer.
Advantages of CT scans: ANS - - The images created are very clear and detailed
- They are quick compared to MRI scans
- Most systems in the body can be scanned
