1. Oogenesis and spermatogenesis are related in that they both ultimately produce haploid cells
and share similar meiotic and mitotic cell division, but there are significant differences between
the two. Discuss these similarities and differences below in your own words. Focus on the
timing, steps and phases of these processes in order to compare and contrast them. (Hint: Your
response should be 6-10 sentences in length.)
When a diploud gamete cell produces haploid and egg cells , this is taken place by forms of
gametogenesis also known as Spermatogenesis and Oogenesis. I will distinguish both types of
Gametogenesis. To better simplify it, Gametogenesis is the process of producing sperm and eggs
by the process of meiosis. Oogenesis takes place in the ovaries , in an early stage of Oogonium it
will go through mitosis and then produce up to 2 million eggs in the embryo. In the
Spermatogenesis phase, the spermatogonia go through mitosis and produce sperm.
