EXAM
What is a "pharmacy" in EPIC?
A record in the PHR master file.
What do these records represent?
A specific place from which you can dispense medications. Your central pharmacy will be built as a
pharmacy record in EPIC, but so will your satellite pharmacies, unit floor stocks, ADS cabinets, & even
robots or carousels.
Define your Central Pharmacy (sometimes referred to as the Main Pharmacy)
It contains every medication your hospital can dispense & it's the place from which other pharmacies
get their inventory.
TRUE
TRUE/FALSE: Your Central Pharmacy is also the "dispense location of last resort.: If the system cannot
find a more appropriate dispense location for an order, it will dispense from the Central Pharmacy.
What is a PRN Par Level?
It is an estimate of how many doses of a PRN order are needed over 24 hours.
What do you do if you want the system to calculate a PRN par level?
Check the "Use PRN par level to calculate the number of doses to dispense" box on the "Dispensing
Information" form of the Central Pharmacy record.
TRUE
TRUE/FALSE: The PRN par level is dispensed when first or cart doses are needed. If there is no PRN par
level for an order, a single dose is dispensed when the first or cart doses are generated.
TRUE
TRUE/FALSE: If you enable PRN Par Level, an order with the frequency of q6h PRN might have a PRN
par level of 4. When the order is verified, you will get 4 first doses. On the next cart, if it goes on a
cart, you'd get 4 cart doses.
TRUE
TRUE/FALSE: If you don't check the "Use PRN par level to calculate the number of doses to dispense"
box, the system would dispense just one first dose when the order is verified & once dose on each
cart.
If you don't link your Central Pharmacy record to the Location (EAF) record that represents your
hospital, what might happen?
1. The system will NOT recognize your pharmacy as the Main (Central) Pharmacy for the hospital.
2. Orders for patients admitted to that hospital might not have a dispense location or a package to
dispense (which will prevent them from being verified).
3. Not having a Main Pharmacy entered will also prevent IMS from working.
