STANDARD STEPS : BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
1. Check the health care providers order
2. Introduce yourself to patient
3. ID the patient (Name and DOB)
4. Explain the procedure
5. Determine the need for and provide patient education
6. Evaluate the patient
7. Perform hand hygiene and don clean gloves
8. Assemble equipment
9. Prepare the patient for the procedure (close door, pull curtain, raise bed to comfortable working height, position and drape hte patient if necessary).
STANDARD STEPS: AFTER THE PROCEDURE
12. Assist the patient to a position of comfort, and place items within easy reach
13. Raise the side rails, and lower the bed to the lowest position
14. Remove gloves and all protective barriers such as gown goggles and mask. Store or
discard appropriately.
15. Perform hand hygiene after removing gloves
16. Document patient's response to the procedure, expected or unexpected outcomes. and all of the patient teaching.
17. Report any unexpected outcomes. Be specific in notes for reporting
