Introduction
In the introduction I need to talk about how companies use servers and cloud storage and
rely on both for their business, citing the characteristics of cloud computing, its advantages,
and disadvantages for organisations. Concluding the reason for cloud computing being a
suitable option for on-site physical servers, that may have been outdated nowadays due to
their limitations.

Characteristics of cloud computing
On-demand self-service
Cloud computing's On-Demand Self-Service is one of its most important parts. The user may
constantly maintain the server's status, available features and activities, and available
storage. The user has the opportunity to personalise the capabilities and features of the
Cloud Computing platform to their own requirements. This includes aspects related to
usability and accessibility, storage requirements, and access levels for various platform
users.
An example of this Apple’s iCloud storage plans is a subscription services where users can
store and automatically back up photos, videos, files…etc, into their Apple devices without
the risk of losing them, the plans are:

On-demand self-service offers scalability, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and accessibility for
users. It allows quick deployment of new services, optimises spending, and is accessible
everywhere. It also reduces time to market for new products and services, allowing
organisations to accelerate development and deployment processes.

However, disadvantages of On-Demand Self-Service include Rapid provisioning of resources
can lead to security vulnerabilities, users having to pay more fees to require more features
or storage depending on the need of the business as these services have a subscription-
based payment system.

Ubiquitous access
Ubiquitous access is a characteristic of cloud computing, that provides on-the-go access to
network of the organisation anywhere and anytime. Thanks to it, employees have the ability

to access their files everywhere to continue work from home form any device such as
laptops, smartphones, PC…etc.
An example of a software that utilises Ubiquitous access is OneDrive which has the same
features.
Advantages of Ubiquitous access in cloud computing is that: users being able to access files
everywhere means that it allows flexibility for both employees and the company, using
resources on-the-go increases work efficiency. Users are also allowed to access their files on
all devices, so they can use their smartphones for example: to view and send files in case
they do not have another device when commuting with them or in a hurry.
Disadvantages of Ubiquitous access in cloud computing: If users do not have an active
Internet connection, this feature may be ineffective because they will not be able to access
their saved work or the platform they are using. Especially if the user is in an area without
Wi-Fi connectivity or if they do not have access to mobile data.

Resource pooling
This third characteristic of cloud computing involves finding something that can help a user
or an organisation, also referred as resources of cloud computing/hardware. These
resources from the service can be provided and assigned to the particular need that exists at
the moment. This means that the user can ask for specific hardware specifications when
using a cloud computing service.
Few examples of resource pooling are CPU pools, memory pools, network pools…etc, they
can be formed into larger groups per the demand
Advantage of it includes it is possible to determine the user's needs based on their location
and need for the service, this enables them to receive the most efficient use out of the
service. The user's productivity will increase because they will feel as though they are not
using a cloud computing service if the provider is close to them. It will also ensure that there
are little to no latency issues when using the service.

Although resources pooling is useful not all providers offer the resources necessary for the
customer, this means the user's needs might not be met if there are no services that are
available that are nearest. Another disadvantage is that it might be expensive, if cheap
alternatives are found, it might be difficult to upgrade the business later on. This could stop
the entire process and limit the scale of the company.
