NR-535 Week 4 Assignment: Preparing to Teach – Developing a Teaching Plan NR-535 Week 4 Assignment: Preparing to Teach – Developing a Teaching Plan
MSN Student’s Name: XX
Required information regarding target audience:
My target audience is the new nursing staff in the hospital's nursing orientation program. The three unique characteristics of the new nurses are social
culture, communication skills, and motivation. In the hospital in New York, nursing staff often come from different cultural backgrounds. The nurses who have Asian backgrounds may not participate much in the class; they show their respect to the teacher by not talking in the class. Nonparticipation can influence the teaching and learning process. When the new nurse is from other countries, they may have a lower level of verbal English fluency (Svinicki & Mckeachie, 2013), in this situation, it is better than the educator have content available in written format and using activities such as simulation and demonstration which provide kinesthetic as well as auditory and visual cue (Oermann et al, 2018). Students with stronger motivation would be more willing to learn clinical skills. They would put more effort into finishing the required assignment and participate more actively in the group activities. When teachers develop the teaching plan, they should use proper strategies to increase the nursing staff's motivation. My philosophy is learner-centered philosophy. Educators should spend time to learn the characteristics of the new nursing staff and make
teaching plans based on the learner's needs.
Required information regarding lesson title and purpose: My lesson title is Blood and Blood Transfusion. The purpose of this lesson is to define the responsibility of the interdisciplinary health team members for ordering and administering blood and blood components. I hope this lesson can help the new nursing staff to establish a standard of practice that complies with regulatory agency requirements. Through this lesson, the new staff can ensure safe transfusion and monitor appropriate utilization of blood and blood components. The length of time will be an hour of didactic content and one-hour simulation within small group and discussion. The lesson will occur in the classroom inside the hospital. It will be very quiet in the classroom. There are enough air conditioners in the NR-535 Week 4 Assignment: Preparing to Teach – Developing a Teaching Plan
