Taught at Gallaudet as an English teacher. Thomas Gallaudet - Answer -Neighbor was Alice Cogswell, a young Deaf girl. He was motivated to find a way to teach her and "bring her to God". Went to France to find a way to teach her, found one school that was very secretive and wouldn't let him use their methods, found another place that taught the deaf (met abbe de siccard/jean massieu/Laurent Clerc).
