NHS Long term plan was published in 2019, outlining what the NHS would
prioritise in order to improve services within the NHS. Within the plan, there is a

Mental Health is an incredibly important part of healthcare, and as a doctor, you
should be treating patients holistically, where you are considering the patient as
a whole, rather than just one illness.
Like the question says, there is a stigma around mental health, I would say I
used to think that it is being more accepted in younger generations, however,
with the rise of social media and certain influential figures, there is a toxic view
of mental health that is perpetuated, especially amongst young men.
Ways in which NHS can address this stigma- through education, and by
emphasising the importance of mental wellbeing and how it can affect other
aspects of life. People generally think of doctors as those who treat physical
ailments, however, a lot of work is done in primary healthcare settings as well
as in the community, further pushed by the NHS long term plan and the
introduction of integrated care systems, where different services work
together.
Social media is also a good way to address this stigma. Social media is an
incredibly effective tool, which can be used for good, but can also be used to
spread misinformation. The NHS can use social media in order to speak to the
younger generations, in order to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health.
Also involving influential figures to speak about mental health in a postive light.
