One of us is lying
Writer: Karen m. Mcmanus
Main characters: Browyn, Cooper, Nate, Addy, Simon

 Extensive summary
Simon has a gossip site called ‘About that’ where he posts once a week and spreads the most
horrible gossips. He ruins peoples lives with this. 5 students have detention at Mr. Avery’s classroom:
Addy, Cooper, Nate, Browyn & Simon. Somehow in everyone’s bag has appeared a phone(that’s
strictly forbidden in detention) that isn’t their own, because they al put their phone in their locker
before. Simon’s thirsty, but his water bottle magically disappeared, so he just takes some water out
of the tap and puts it in his cup. The sound of 2 cars crashing in the parking lot, there’s been an
accident. Mr. Avery hurries over to the parking lot to make sure if no one got hurt. 5 left in the
classroom and they’re al walking over to the window to look at the parking lot. Simon walks back of
to his seat, picks up his cup, walks to the hall, but stands still in the door opening, takes a sip of his
cup, falls on the ground and just collapsed. They’re trying to find out what’s going on, but Simon has
a hard time breathing so it’s hard to understand what he’s saying.
He says ‘’Epi-pen’’, because apparently he has a peanut-allergy. It means someone must’ve put some
in his cup. Simon is dead and just 24 hours before he wanted to post Browyn, Addy, Nate and
Cooper’s biggest secret on his site ‘’about that’’. This makes them all a little more suspect, because
they all have a motive too have wanted to have him dead. Addy cheated on Jake(her boyfriend for a
very long time) with TJ, they had sex while being drunk on the beach. Simon caught them. Browyn is
a top student, but last year she searched her exam answers on her chemistry teachers laptop. She
also has a sister Meave who overwon leukemia and Simon found a photo of her as well on her first
high school party, which he wanted to post a humiliating photo on his site and this angered Browyn
of course. Cooper is gay, but has a sweet girlfriend Keely. Keely was popular, cooper was good in
football, they were perfect together, but Cooper cheats with Kris(his secret model boyfriend) on
Keely. Simon found all these secret out and was planning on revealing them all. Nate is the only
member of the Bayview four with a criminal record, so he seems to be the leading suspect in Simon’s
murder. Nate has always had a crush on Browyn and as they get closer in the investigation those
feelings seem to grow. He’s positive it’s not mutual. Nate sold drugs in the past and Simon’s
unpublished post alleges that he’s selling it again, which in fact is true, but since the death of Simon
he’s been avoiding selling and using it(partly), because he knows Browyn deserves someone’s life
who’s less complicated. Meave starts her own investigation and shares what she finds with her sister
Browyn, because the police only pays attention to the Bayview four. Meave succeeds to having
access to Simons about that admin page and looks into his past. She finds some comments that
Simon wrote and posted after a nearby school shooting. In spite of everyone’s parents and lawyers
discouraging them to have contact with each other while the investigation is still going, they all agree
to work together as long as the investigation’s standing. Ashton(Addy’s big sister) and Meave
continue to dig together into Simon’s past. After Addy reached out to Janae, Simon’s only friend,
Janae, Addy and Browyn start spending more time together. In the meantime Browyn and Nate try to
have a secret relationship and Addy confesses to Jake that she cheated, because she can’t carry her
secret any longer. Her friend group, which apparently were just Jake friends and not Addy’s, start to
exclude her and she gets bullied at school. She find her own space once broken up with Jake, it
appears he had a great influence on every move she made. Nate has a difficult relationship with his
parents, his father is an alcoholic and his mother ‘’died’’, but she didn’t because when Browyn and
Nate enter Nate’s house his mother is standing in front of the door. His mother is doing much better,
because she went into heavy therapy and had been clean for a few month now and wants to be part
of Nate’s life again. After Cooper comes out of the closet to his parents he tells Addy as well. When
