Case Report: BMW Group

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a business model that promotes social accountability to
stakeholders and the public (Fernando, 2022). This means companies acknowledge the impact
their actions have on the environment, economy, and social aspects and plan to take corrective
actions when required. Currently, many companies implement CSR by integrating it into their
mission, vision, and policy structure.

BMW is one of the major companies that implement corporate social responsibility at the highest
level. They implement sustainability practices in vehicle production and actively participate in
social investment. For these reasons, BMW Group has won several awards and was in first place
in the automobile industry in Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) in 2015 (Dudovski,
2016).

Currently, BMW focuses on making sure that its production processes have a minimum adverse
impact on the environment. Furthermore, BMW aims to build vehicles that are most fuel-
efficient and minimize pollution to the environment. Consequently, CSR is implemented in the
overall operations of the company to enhance long-term sustainability (Korschun et al., 2014).

This also translates into the safety and security of its workforce. BMW implements strict
guidelines that ensure the condition of its factory is safe, employees are protected from
workplace dangers like potentially toxic chemicals and necessary PPE products are used
(Wagner et al., 2009). Furthermore, the company respects employees' time and pays well when it
requires overtime work. Strategies that help employees develop their skills and knowledge
through training are given. They encourage employees that perform well for advancement and
specialized training.

The BMW Group is engaged in more than 100 individual Corporate Social Investment projects
that are aimed to address problems in three key areas including HIV and AIDS, Local
community development, and education (BMW Group, n.d.). The education aspects touch on
subjects like Science, Technology, and the Environment. These initiatives are implemented as a
company by integrating them into their business objectives.
