Majority of the time the crimes that are usually portrayed in this outlet are usually crimes which give
some sort of emotional reaction to the public due to the unethicalness of the crime or due to the
scale of the crime. The types of crimes tend to be involved in murder stabbing and other sort of
horrific crimes which instantly intrigue attention. These crimes are usually sensationalised by
newspaper by the specific language used by the media. This is done and usually over dramatizes the
reality of the situation and often leads to scaremongering which leads to high levels of uneasiness
within the society temporarily and usually causes induvial to keep checking on how the situation is
playing out which therefore causes the number of papers sold to increase.
There are 2 types of newspapers articles, a tabloid and Broadsheet. A tabloid newspaper is a type of
newspaper that has a much smaller text size in comparison to a normal paper. It often focuses on
using sensational and eye-catching headlines, like major catastrophise that occur, large scandals, and
other types of dramatic news. These newspapers are known for their bold headlines, colourful
photos, and a more informal style of writing. The purpose of this types of paper is to quickly grab the
attention of an individual.
A broadsheet newspaper is a much bigger newspaper that presents news in a more formal manner.
They are usually very detailed and consist of lots of text. They have a neater layout compared to
tabloid newspapers, with smaller headlines and a focus on in-depth reporting and analysis. They are
often seen as providing more serious and in-depth journalism I comparison to a tabloid paper.
Films
The media's depiction of wrongdoing in films is regularly seen from a fictional point of view. While a
few movies glamorise criminal interests, others take a more reasonable approach to the world of
crime. For example, the movie "Shot Caller," a movie that goes deep into the gangs, murder, and
robbery. In this movie wrongdoing is regularly seen as joyful, recommending that precision and
planning can outwit any potential repercussions of crime. This portrayal can make criminal activities
seem thrilling and potentially even rewarding.
On the other hand, there are shows like "Police Interceptors" that offer a more factual perspective.
They document real-life police operations and present them in a documentary format.
The media's portrayal of crime can sometimes convey the idea that there are no real consequences
for criminal actions, giving the view that it's a normal way of life. This portrayal can strongly
influence some individuals, leading them to believe that engaging in criminal activities is like acting
out a role in a movie and therefore lead them to crime.
Televison
Television is a place where crime gets a lot of attention. There are news reports that tell us about
real crimes happening. And there are also TV shows that talk about crime, some of which are based
on true stories, like "Police Interceptors". Another example of a TV show is "Jeremy Kyle" which is a
show that documents real life crime examples of crime, the focus in this show is usually domestic
abuse crimes.
But there are also fictional TV shows that make up stories about crime. It doesn't happen in real life.
These shows may be seen as entertainment, but they are not necessarily true. Sometimes crimes are
portrayed in a way that may not be true and by watching these fictional shows they can give false
