Nurse Manager

Adrianne King, RN is a Lead Nurse at 3 East, progressive care unit, at Sharp Grossmont

Hospital (SGH), which specializes on gastrointestinal and gerintourinary conditions. Adrianne

received her ADN from the College of Southern Idaho and started working as a floor nurse at

Sharp Chula Vista in 2003. She later moved to SGH on 2009 and started working as an AC on

2012 to finally become a Lead Nurse in 2013. As a lead, Adrianne has to attend four hospital

wide meeting with the CNO, monthly lead meetings with the unit manager, as well as system-

wide leadership meetings three times per year. Among her responsibilities, Adrianne has to

monitor staff attendance, create schedules, and make sure policies and procedures are followed.

She interviews new hires along with other lead nurses and the nurse manager, does 90-day eval

for new employees, as well as yearly employee reviews. Adrianne also directly works with the

unit’s educator to ensure staff is up to date on new policies, procedures or equipment. As charge

nurse in the unit, Adrianne provides assistance to staff, provides lunch breaks with the help of

the resource nurse, and attends to all codes and rounds on patients. Adrianne is PCCN certified

since 2014 which she has to renew every year with one hundred CEUs, and she also attends

Sharp volunteer opportunities a few times per year.


Nurse Leader

Adrianne is a great leader that encourages the unit’s growth and team work but also

knows how to handle conflict in the unit. Her leadership style is that of a situational leader which

can be define as a leader who adapts their leadership style according to a specific situation

(Giltinane, 2013). Adrianne helps and encourages staff but also is fair and is always calm when

handling conflict, talking to upper management, or with patients in critical condition. As
