What is the Endocrine System?
The Endocrine System is made up of glands and specialized cells all over the body
that produce hormones. These hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted
into the bloodstream and then proceed to their designated tissues, or effectors.
Receptors in the target tissues are responsible for the response to the hormones.
Growth and development, metabolism, and reproduction are just a few of the vital
processes in the body that are regulated by the hormones the endocrine system
secretes.

Functions of Endocrine System
The level of hormones in your blood is regularly monitored by your endocrine system. In
order to transmit the message, hormones send their messages by locking into the cells
they intend to reach.

When your hormone levels increase, the pituitary gland signals other glands to stop
manufacturing and releasing hormones.
